Conformation competition consists of presenting our best specimens in order to compete against other specimens of the breed in order to cumulate points towards a championship title.
A championship title is obtained when a dog has cumulated 10 points. Only shows accredited by the Canadian Kennel Club are allowed to provide these qualifying points. The maximum points allowed in one show, for one dog, is 5 points. However, a minimum of 3 judges has to have given points to one particular dog in order for those points to count for a championship title.
In conformation shows, the judge will examine the dog in the stack position, then "on the move" in order to evaluate according to CKC's official standards of the breed. The judge will then place in order those whom he considers to be the closest to breed standard.
Males are judged against one another, and then same for the females. They may also be judged according to their age.
Once completed, the championship title is given to the dog and the letters CH will be added in front of the dog's CKC's official registered name which means « Champion ».
Different classes:
- JUNIOR PUPPY: Six to nine months (minus one day) of age the day of the show. - SENIOR PUPPY: Nine to twelve months (minus one day) of age the day of the show. - CANADIAN BRED: Born in Canada. - BRED BY EXHIBITOR: Bred by the owner at time of the show. - OPEN: Every dog of same sex may enter.
The winner dog, and the winner female and the champions will all be competing for best of breed, the best of opposite sex, the best of winners, and best puppy in breed.
In competition where there are large entries, such as Specialty shows, classes will be divided by colour; (chocolate, black and yellow).
Further more, in these specialties, there will be added classes; the twelve to eighteen months (minus one day) and the veterans class (seven years and over).
